Trade Game (preliminary title) is going to be a game about collecting items across the land and strategizing which NPC's you trade with to get better items in order to continue trading to the top!

The verb I chose to develop is 'trading'. Since this is a prototype of a much grander idea, it's a bit simple with only one NPC to interact with as of right now. I hope it'll be a fun interaction nonetheless!!!

Use WASD for directional inputs and the button you have set for interactions (for whatever reason, mine is J. I don't know if that's for everyone, though).

Questions:

1) I will change this as we begin to use more complex sprites (probably a directional sign and some path tiles), but for now, are the two blocks at the bottom of  the screen a good indicator of where you need to go next after interacting  with the Shrimp Wizard?

2) Is this game concept overall an engaging one? Is continuous collecting/strategic trading a fun concept for a game that you'd play on your own?

1.) I first ran into the boxes because I thought they were the sprite itself, but yes, they're a good indicator. With more complex sprites and backgrounds, I think it'll be clearer.

2.) I would! I think it's fun figuring out who wants what and where to find each object to trade up. Maybe change the conditional dialogue so that he doesn't ask for a shramp every time because that starts getting a little repetitive, but I think you have a really fun game so far. :D

For question 1, the two blocks at the bottom of the screen are an okay indicator of going to the next level, but you might want to make those blocks a different color so that the player can tell that that is where you have to go to get to the next level.

For question 2, the game layout is kind of confusing, as it is just a bunch of shapes thrown together, with no real indication of what to do (I am not able to interact with any of the shapes, since I don't know what button to press for what), and it only takes up a small fraction of the screen space. Yes, continuous collecting/strategic trading would be a fun concept for a game, as it would be engaging to the player.
